Kraftwurx VS Shapeways 12 Years, 2 Months ago message Karma: 1
I have done a lot of 3D printing via shapeways and I am always on the lookout for different places to get my 3D printing done.

I will post a review once I have been able to order from Kraftwurx.

So anyone have opinions and reviews? How do the two companies compare?

I have been a designer on Shapeways for 6 months, and have had a few things printed there (see attached image file for one of the products that I printed there). However I have never actually had anything printed from Kraftwurkx, so as for end product I have never seen one yet from Kraftwurkx. However, the user interface on Kraftwurx is so much harder to use. Though it is very beautiful, I must say it took at least 5 times longer to get a single product up as it did on Shapeways. And beside that, they have no real pictures of their materials. Just stupid material spheres. Then there's the "Processing" message when I upload my product that went for 10 minutes and I finally had to completely redo my product uploading process. All this fuss over a stupid pair of dice. So for now, I am trying to order a product from Kraftwurx to compare with Shapeways. But it is a beta, so what can I say.

P.S: How do I edit a product that I have already uploaded? I.E. add new photos? Can't figure out... Spent at least 30 minutes on trying to figure out something that I did in 30 seconds on Shapeways.

Hi Buddy9534,

We appreciate your candid feedback. We are glad that you acknowledge that we are indeed in BETA. We are working diligently to address all concerns and ask that you provide feedback to Marco, the Community Manager so that we can take your suggestions under advisement.

If you could build a system like this...or Shapeways, what would you do differently? Pass us a suggestion and we'll be happy to add it to our list of changes. In fact, we open the idea up to the community at-large to provide feedback to us as a community on what changes and or improvements you would make to the site.

Start from a blank slate and talk about screens, processes, clicks, whatever you want and lets let the community make a decision on our direction for changes.

We want Kraftwurx to be the best experience that it can be...and we encourage the community to provide feedback, good and bad to help us achieve those results.

Hiya,

There have been several suggestions for improvement, and I have also mentioned issues with the site (even now the link on the front page when clicking on the www.kraftwurx.com/sell still goes to a 404, and this was mentioned a long time ago).

There are still issues with the emails: Regardless of whether it's a Thunderbird issue or not, I haven't seen it happen from any other newsletters I have received in the last decade.

In general, the site appears to reflect (true or not) are very loose and unprofessional service: It's why I have been reluctant to send a print through.

'Beta' or not, it shouldn't decline to 'Alpha'.

Kraftwurx appeared to have a lot of potential, in materials and services.

It's looking like there is little or no progress with the resuorces you have available. You want to improve Kraftwurx? Pay me.

Cheers,

Luis.

After placing two orders on Kraftwurx and waiting for the results of a third one, i must say that i am generally very happy with it.
i was especialy looking for a service to produce small, detailed parts and kratfwurxs nano-detail-perfactory materials matches this perfectly. That is something shapeways definitely can not offer. I tried their "frosted ultra-detail" material which produced a nice result in my first order but every result of my following orders was worse than the one before, An experience that i share with many shapeways-users whta you can read on their forums ...

It took a lot of patience to produce parts with kratwurx - no feedback about my orders for some weeks but in the end they took a lot of care about my order and delivered perfect results!

there is a lot to improve in the service of kraftwurx but it really deserves to be given a chance!

I ordered identical objects from both Shapeways and Kraftwurx at the same time. The cost of the item itself was the same for both services, but the postage from Kraftwurx was more expensive. However, it appears you get what you pay for, because in only 3 days I had the item from Kraftwurx in my hand while Shapeways had not even notified me if they had started printing my object. It's now a week later and I still don't have the Shapeways item in my hand.

It's pretty obvious who you want to be working with if you're doing any iterative design. With Kraftwurx, the postage may be more expensive, but the gratification is more immediate.
