I've checked the forums up and down, and I could not find a definitive answer to this question. Hopefully someone can lay down exactly what you need in your model in order to ensure a good print.

In a better frame of reference, I'm designing rings for a family member. I am doing the model in Zbrush, with the base model in 3dsmax to ensure proper dimensions. The ring will be finished in stainless steel, but for testing purposes will be done in plastic at first. I want to make sure I have everything I need in the model in order to make sure the print is going to work properly and come out fine.

To make it easier to go down the list:

1. Model limitations (polycounts, quads or tris, sizes?)
2. File formats (Which would be preferable in certain circumstances?)
3. Pre-printing visualization (Any way to better pre-visualize before ordering prints?)
4. Printing concerns (supports, anything needed to get a good print)

Any information would be greatly appreciated. Hopefully this list could be used to better flush out questions newcomers to 3d printing might have as well!

3D Printing Model Requirments:

1. Model limitations (polycounts, quads or tris, sizes?)
A:No Limit, Files up to 200mb in size can uploaded for 3d print

2. File formats (Which would be preferable in certain circumstances?)
A: .STL .OBJ .DAE .WRL

3. Pre-printing visualization (Any way to better pre-visualize before ordering prints?)
When a model is uploaded to the site, you will see a simple 3d view of the model.

4. Printing concerns (supports, anything needed to get a good print)
If the model has hollow sections, be sure to place a hole or exit to that hollow so that support materials can be removed after printing.

For Stainless steel and other precious metals, details can be as fine as 0.04mm.

You cannot print onto existing metal pieces at Kraftwurx.com. However you can 3d print in various metals. Let me know if you have any other questions.
